Maintenance and Reliability Manager

POSITION
Summary:

The Maintenance and Reliability Manager is accountable for managing the maintenance and reliability functions at Lubrizol s Avon Lake chemical plant, the largest US plant in the advanced materials division.
This role reports directly to the Avon Lake Plant Manager and has a strong connection with the Operations and Process Technology groups that support the Avon Lake facility.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain a continuously improving holistic maintenance program that optimizes safety performance, asset utilization and health, cost-effectiveness and quality objectives, while meeting or exceeding production and business key results.
  • Develop, evaluate and implement appropriate predictive and preventive maintenance strategies and techniques for a premier reliability program.
  • Deliver results through demonstration of Lubrizol s cultural beliefs, leading by example and driving those beliefs into the maintenance and reliability groups.

DUTIES /
Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a positive work environment/culture that fosters a commitment to safety excellence, efficiency, effectiveness and high morale while ensuring that all employees are treated fairly and equitably.
  • Ensure that the entire organization embraces the vision of the Avon Lake plant and the corporation, setting clear expectations and ensuring goals are met.
  • Lead the departments in routine safety improvement activities, including leading indicator driven safety meetings, housekeeping, PPE compliance and pre-job risk analysis
  • Select, develop and administer a staff with appropriate training, skills and cultural attitude to maintain all equipment and facilities infrastructure in a safe and efficient working condition.
  • Ensure the long-term reliability, availability, and safety of assets for the Avon Lake facility in support of manufacturing optimization
  • Develop engineering solutions to maintenance problems, including ways of reducing or eliminating the need for maintenance through equipment replacement or improvement work.
  • Drive reliability programs including predictive and preventive maintenance optimization, ensuring availability of spare parts, tools and equipment.
    Drive effective utilization of resources by pushing the existing time-based PM's toward condition-based maintenance.
    Justify the utilization of remote monitoring of equipment as appropriate.
  • Maintain an atmosphere of teamwork and joint accountability with the manufacturing and pilot plant operating units, recognizing mutual goals, accountabilities, and needs as well as building consensus.
  • Develop, oversee and maintain the asset management system.
    This system shall be aligned with the corporate asset management standard.
  • Collaborating with Project Engineering, participate in the Engineering Work process during design, installation, start-up and acceptance of new and re-purposed assets, to ensure reliability and maintainability.
    This includes final check out, factory and site acceptance testing, assuring adherence to functional specifications and maintenance requirements.
  • Administer corporate policies in a fair and equitable manner while representing the interests of the department s personnel.
    Provide proper guidance, direction and tools for employees to do their jobs with pride.
    Maintain an open-door policy for all department employees, promote teamwork among employees, promote diversity and inclusion, insuring that all employees are treated fairly and equitably.
  • Manage the Mechanical Integrity program:
    Inspection records, procedures and training; interpretation of results and mitigation of problems identified; continued compliance with OSHA PSM requirements.
  • Assist with development of definitions & tracking of Key Performance Indicators for site equipment, provide reports to support equipment performance analyses.
  • Assist operations with efforts to use operators/supervisors to set up and monitor routine equipment checks (seal levels, oil levels, etc.
    ).
    Document methods and measurements to support Operator maintenance efforts.
  • Limited travel for training/meetings and equipment supplier visits may be required.

Skills, Qualifications, Experience, Special Requirements:

  • Bachelor s degree in engineering (Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical) from an accredited university.
  • Prior supervisory or managerial experience.
  • Strong safety orientation and sound safety judgement
  • Minimum 10 years of experience working in a chemical plant environment that includes:
    • reliability analysis of some or all of the following chemical plant equipment:
      pumps, fans, blowers, agitators, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, extruders, boilers, air compressors, mechanical seals, bearings and gears, mixer rotors and shafts, screeners, screw feeders, relief valves.
    • extracting and analyzing performance data from a CMMS.
    • leading cross functional teams toward equipment improvement targets.
  • Demonstrated results improving efficiency using TPM, Six Sigma, 5S, Lean, OEE or other CI techniques.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven ability to drive organizational change.
  • High energy, shop floor personality that promotes mutual respect with the craftsmen.

  • An advanced degree or MBA.
  • GMP experience.
  • Black Belt or Lean Manufacturing certification
