Sr Manager, Technical Service & Development

General Summary
The Technical Service and Development Senior Manager is responsible for leading a team of scientists, engineers and technicians to design, develop, and improve custom polymer compounds; accomplished by working closely with the sales and marketing teams to identify and prioritize development opportunities that will further drive the growth of specialty formulations. This includes leading a team to formulate compounds to meet customers' requirements with respect to mechanical properties, electrical properties, flame resistance, flow, surface appearance, shrinkage, etc., and requires effective resource utilization and team management, as well as good cross-functional coordination. Fifteen years direct relevant experience with the ability to interact, present and influence cross functionally and globally both internally and externally with customers. Performs independently and effectively coaches others to achieve results in a matrix environment. Demonstrated ability to effectively interact and influence all levels of organization (PolyOne and Customer), including the VP/GM level.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop innovative solutions that position PolyOne as the leading specialty solutions provider for customers.
Partner internally and externally to innovate new technologies and penetrate strategic markets to solve customer problems.
Create value for customers through value-added services such as custom solutions and optimization of processes and manufacturability.
Drive a culture of innovation through creativity, cooperation, collaboration, and engagement.
Manage innovation portfolios, technology plans and resources consistently with business unit priorities.
Provide timely technical solutions to help the business meet its financial and strategic goals
Achieve key innovation targets like vitality index metrics and new revenues from launched POL projects.
Plan, direct, and coordinate product development functions independently.
Modify and optimize existing formulations as required by internal priorities and/ or customer needs.
Develop and/ or guide development of new formulation technologies as requested by POL and SF processes.
Coordinate with other PolyOne sites for technology transfers where necessary.
Develop and/ or provide project management for new applications, product launch testing plan, data analysis, and/or communication of results.
Documents and prepares product specifications incorporating PolyOne products and services into customer applications on a global basis.
Develops testing to ensure our products meet customer's performance requirements
Manages successful resolution of customer complaints/issues.
Works with high profile customers to enhance or improve technical specifications and resolve technical/ product performance issues.
Aware of business and market trends to identify and provide unique solutions for key customers.
Coordinate with Lab Operations and Manufacturing for production scale-up.
Develop and implement raw material technical planning projects to provide supply flexibility and cost savings opportunities in collaboration with Sourcing and Supply Chain.
Scout new raw material technologies for product development purposes.
Partner effectively with product stewardship and regulatory requirements to drive regulatory compliance and corporate adherence.
Provide technical leadership through mentoring, training, and coaching direct reports.
Effectively network with other technical and marketing teams within PolyOne to generate and exploit new ideas and opportunities.
Advocate a strong safety and performance culture and accountability within the team.
Skills and Experience Required:
PhD or MS in chemistry, chemical/ polymer engineering or other related field and 15 years of related, progressively responsible experience. Requires expert knowledge of the polymer industry.
Possess strong working knowledge in PVC formulations and processing.
Has managed a team of technical professionals for a minimum of 10 years
A technical teacher/ mentor who can create effective rapport within the team and across functions and business units.
Proficient practitioner of Design of Experiment and statistical tools
Developed and implemented technology strategies in line with business/ segment strategies.
Lead improvement of technology processes using Lean Six Sigma tools
Proven track record of solving difficult technical problems of significant business impact
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must be able to project a strong and confident professional image.
A thought leader with the ability to influence cross-functional teams to successful project completion.
Has a track record of developing and mentoring subordinates to be successful, and fosters a climate that is demanding but recognizes achievement

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
